    Light Focus 2002 in Frankfurt/D

On the occasion of the Light & Building Fair in Frankfurt from 14.-18. April 2002 the European Lighting Designers’ Association, ELDA will be staging their third international lighting conference Light Focus 2002 together with the ZVEI, the German Lighting and Electrical Industry Association. The 2002 conference will be on the theme of "The Language of Light", and will address the importance of effective collaboration and communication between members of the planning team, and different ways of educating clients and the general public. Over three days a total of 18 papers will be given on eight main themes. Conference languages: English and German.

The following themes will be discussed:

  1. Marketing light (How can good lighting be marketed? What is the value of print media, lighting events and workshops, award schemes? What can light do for urban design/the retail industry?)
  2. Interpreting clients' and users' needs (what talents and abilities does a lighting designer have to dispose over to read a client's mind? What gives him the authority to decide what users' needs are? How can users' behaviour/reactions in before/after situations be effectively recorded? How can the quality of lighting be described and evaluated? Explanations and discussion on the term "quality".)
  3. Collaboration in the design team (Successful lighting designer/architect teams, who are the members of the design team, how can communication on a project be eased? Facility Management.)
  4. Let the sun shine in (Daylight facades, the interplay of electric light and daylight, solar energy and solar systems, daylight control systems, who are the experts?)
  5. The trials and tribulations of junior lighting designers (How can the younger generation of lighting designers be more involved in professional issues? How much responsibility can they bear? First experiences in the big, wide world of lighting.)
  6. Testing the limits (How far does a professional lighting designer's responsibility reach? Projects where the lighting designer has moved beyond his original task.)
  7. The language of light - who can speak it? (Do international lighting designers speak the same language when it comes to light and lighting? Are there cultural differences that cannot be overcome?)
  8. Light and technological developments (New lighting products, new architectural styles, new building materials and their effect on lighting design, e.g. DALI, LED.)

Product/company presentations, and sales talks will not be accepted.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for the chosen speakers. Proposals for papers should be sent to ELDA Head Office, Light Focus 2002, Postfach 3201, D-33262 Guetersloh or by e-mail to ELDA.Info@t-online.de by 30. August, 2001.
